Boyd & Jenerette Associate Maria Soledad Bodero has been appointed to the Legislative Committee of the International Section of the Florida Bar. The International Law Section provides a forum of communication and education to and for the public and attorneys on matters relating to international law; and to improve the administration and the application of laws, rules and regulations in international law.
Ms. Bodero handles litigation matters involving commercial, contractual and real estate disputes and has represented domestic and international clients in litigation and arbitration. Ms. Bodero’s practice also involves a wide array of complex family matters, with a particular emphasis on international-based clients that has allowed her to assist her clients in foreign jurisdictions including China, Taiwan and South and Central America.
On April 26 & 27, 2012 Boyd & Jenerette Partners, Ronald Neiwirth (A Florida Civil-Law Notary and head of the Insolvency & Reorganization practice), and Carlos Aguilar (head of the International practice), participated in the North American Notarial Forum, held at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. Mr. Neiwirth is a director of the National Association of Civil Law Notaries (“NACLN”). He has been a Florida Civil-Law Notary since the specialty was first created by Statute in 1999. Mr. Neiwirth presented on Civil-Law Notarial Ethics, comparing ethical regulation of Florida lawyers serving as Civil-Law Notaries, with the ethical standards established by the Union Internationale du Notariat (“UIN”). He also participated on a panel discussion of Notarial ethics with eminent notaries from other countries.
Also in attendance were Florida’s Secretary of State, Ken Detzner; the President of the UIN, representing 81 countries which utilize civil-law notaries; as well as a number of other prominent notaries from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Morocco, Argentina, France, and Quebec.
The Civil-Law Notary is, generally speaking, a highly-trained attorney who is able to authenticate and certify documents and facts, as well as prepare transactional documentation, which will be generally accepted in other countries which utilize the Civil-Law Notarial concept.
