Maria Soledad Bodero Appointed to Legislative Committee of the International Law Section of the Florida Bar

Boyd & Jenerette Associate Maria Soledad Bodero has been appointed to the Legislative Committee of the International Section of the Florida Bar. The International Law Section provides a forum of communication and education to and for the public and attorneys on matters relating to international law; and to improve the administration and the application of laws, rules and regulations in international law.

Ms. Bodero handles litigation matters involving commercial, contractual and real estate disputes and has represented domestic and international clients in litigation and arbitration. Ms. Bodero’s practice also involves a wide array of complex family matters, with a particular emphasis on international-based clients that has allowed her to assist her clients in foreign jurisdictions including China, Taiwan and South and Central America.

Mark Eckels to Present at the 29th Annual Workers’ Compensation Winter Retreat

Boyd & Jenerette Shareholder Mark Eckels will be speaking at the 29th Annual Workers' Compensation Winter Retreat presented by the Florida Bar Workers' Compensation Section on March 5th, 2013 in Lake Tahoe, California.

Mr. Eckels will be presenting 'Competing Jurisdictional Issues, Including Jones Act Longshore & WC', providing practice tips on what questions to ask and what issues to look for to make the proper jurisdiction determinations.

Boyd & Jenerette Associate Appointed Chair of the Florida Bar Appellate Section’s “Hot Topics in Appellate Law” Seminar

Boyd & Jenerette Associate, Kansas Gooden has been appointed Chair of the 2013 Florida Bar Appellate Section's "Hot Topics in Appellate Law" seminar.

This bi-annual CLE seminar is designed to provide an update of topical issues currently affecting appellate practice in the state of Florida. It is structured so as to give trial and appellate counsel a view from sitting appellate judges, as well as observations from recently retired appellate judges.

Ms. Gooden is a skilled appellate attorney who focuses primarily on civil appeals, insurance coverage and bad faith/extra-contractual liability litigation. Ms. Gooden was selected by Florida Super Lawyers as a "Rising Star" in 2011 and 2012. She also is active in First District Appellate Inn of Court where she serves as a Barrister and is Vice Chair of the Appellate Section of the Jacksonville Bar Association.

Boyd & Jenerette Associate Appointed to Eleventh Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee of the Florida Bar

The Florida Bar has appointed Boyd & Jenerette Senior Associate Olesia Belchenko, to the 11th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee for a three-year term.

The grievance committee reviews complaints with much the same purpose as a grand jury. That is, the committee decides, after a case is submitted to them by bar counsel, whether there is probable cause to believe a lawyer violated the professional conduct rules imposed by the Supreme Court of Florida and whether discipline against the lawyer appears to be warranted.

Belchenko’s practice focuses on resolution of commercial disputes, including banking, construction and real estate. Belchenko has broad appellate experience, representing local and national banks, financial institutions, the aviation industry, as well as automotive finance companies before Florida’s appellate courts. She often advises clients on Florida's lien laws, including foreclosure procedures for construction liens and aircraft liens.

Ms. Belchenko has extensive experience with matters involving foreign parties and international law, particularly, with questions related to service of process abroad, and enforcement of judgments obtained in the United States in foreign countries.

Congratulations to Boyd & Jenerette Partner Mark Eckels for being named Chair of the Florida Bar's Workers' Compensation Certification Committee for 2012-2013 term!

Mr. Eckels is currently the chairman of the Florida Bar’s Workers’ Compensation Rules Advisory Committee(2011-2012), a committee he has served on since 2002. He became Board Certified by the Florida Bar in workers’ compensation in 2000, and now helps to write the certification exam, serving on the Florida Bar’s Workers’ Compensation Board Certification Committee since 2007.
