Appeals

Boyd & Jenerette is experienced in handling civil appeals in all Florida District Courts of Appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, and Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

Arguing an appeal is significantly different than handling a trial.  The firm’s appellate attorneys understand the need to analyze complex legal questions.  They write persuasive briefs using legal arguments focused on the text of the law and those centered around history, custom, and tradition of the first principles of the law. Our appellate attorneys are also skilled oral advocates.

Boyd & Jenerette’s appellate practice closely adheres to the firm’s practice areas, as follows:

  • Auto Liability
  • Business Law
  • Construction
  • Family Law
  • General Litigation
  • Insurance Coverage & Bad Faith
  • Insurance Defense
  • Longshore & Maritime
  • Mass Tort
  • Premises Liability
  • Products Liability
  • Professional Liability
  • Trucking & Transportation
  • Workers’ Compensation & Employment

Our attorneys have extensive experience in drafting amicus briefs on behalf of various organizations.   Our attorneys have drafted briefs in many of the Florida Supreme Court’s well-known civil cases.

Our appellate attorneys also serve another role.  They provide litigation and trial support to numerous attorneys across the state.  Our attorneys ghost-write motions, create legal strategies, and help preserve error.  Most importantly, our attorneys will attend trial along with trial lawyers.  We assist them in every facet of the case, including arguing legal issues and motions, jury instructions, and handling proffers. Two members of the appellate team are board certified in appellate practice by The Florida Bar: Kansas Gooden and Kevin Franz.   Board certification is the highest level of professional recognition granted by The Florida Bar, and confirms that an attorney is an expert in their field.
